WELCOME TO HAUTES-HUTTES !

Between 880 and 1000 m, Hautes-Huttes is one of the numerous hamlets around Orbey, a mountain village situated 25 kms from Colmar and 22 kms from Munster, in the department of the Haut-Rhin.

The village centre is at 7 km.

Farms are scattered around Hautes-Huttes where a chapel-school can be visited. Some of the farms are still working.
One of them is run by Christian and Patrick Ancel who tend a herd of rare breed Vosges cattle. Milk, munster cheese, butter and Bargkass can be bought at the farm.

Hautes-Huttes and the natural environment.

Forests of Scots Pine, hay meadows and pastures, heather and bilberry heathland, little streams and copses are the main environments to be discovered,

...the environment and landscapes around the hamlet are varied. Between granite and sandstone, a specific flora thrives. At less than an hour's walk, discover glacial lakes and cirques (left: Forlet lake). The nature reserve of Tanet Gazon du Faing is closeby.

Flowers, trees, mosses, mammals, birds, insects ...

A wide variety of birds frequent the area in all seasons. Here is a sample of birdlife for enthusiasts: tits (blue, great, coal, marsh, crested), woodpeckers (greater spotted, green, black), birds of prey (buzzard, kestrel), finches (chaffinch, brambling, bullfinch), robin, wren, whitethroat, treecreeper, whinchat…

Foxes, roe deer, hares and squirrels are local residents; more discreet are badgers, pine martens, weasels and stoats.
