Wood-fired heating.

   A wood-fired central heating system has been installed since the winter of 2000. This also heats the hot water for 7 months of the year. The gite is heated by an enclosed fireplace during Spring and Autumn.

   In 2006, solar panels was installed on the roof for domestic use ( heat water ).

The kitchen garden is organic.

   Here, chemical pesticides and fertilisers are unknown; butterflies, ladybirds, honey bees and bumble bees fly freely.

   Underground, moles, shrews, earthworms and larvae of all sorts, go about their business. Flowers mingle with vegetables while old roses and shrubs act as windbreaks. We have counted 10 or so species of butterfly, including the majestic Swallowtail.

"LPO refuge", a paradise for birds.

   Since 1997, the owner is part of the network of "LPO refuges".
   Meaning that everything is done to attract and welcome birdlife. Just some of the activities: setting up nesting boxes, feeding stations and apples in winter, leaving piles of wood (the wren loves them), planting fruit trees, thorny and berried bushes - a large accessible larder.
